What is Chemical Genetics?
|
Chemical genetics is the study of how small molecules affect proteins and signal transduction pathways (1). The video on the left, describes what makes small molecules so important to research along with how they are used in industry by a company called Genetech, a biotechnology company that focuses on drug development. |
Analysis
PubChem and Chembank were searched to identify small molecules that interact with COL3A1. Neither yielded results for small molecules that interact with COL3A1. On one hand, this result is consistent with the fact that there are no treatments for Vascular EDS. This also highlights the need to conduct more research on the interactions between COL3A1 and small molecules to search for potential cures.
